Acupuncture

Present in every living creature is a universal life energy called qi (pronounced chee).  Health is maintained when the qi flows freely through the body, but when the flow is blocked, the body’s systems are disrupted and pain and illness can occur.  Acupuncture works at restoring the proper flow of energy within the body, thereby ridding the body of dis-ease and pain.  Acupuncture has been proven to be an effective way of treating chronic and acute conditions and restoring health and balance for more than 3000 years.

Licensed acupuncturist, Abigail Lopez, is committed to providing holistic care to her patients.  She focuses her practice on treating the root of the problem, instead of focusing solely on the symptoms at hand.  In addition, she recognizes the importance of preventative care in supporting her patients to live healthy, full lives.  As well as acupuncture, Abigail incorporates into her practice the use of Chinese herbs, non-insertive needling techniques, tui na (a style of Asian massage), moxibustion, magnets, cupping and uses both Chinese and Japanese styles of acupuncture.  As an acupuncturist, she supports patients in cultivating mind-body awareness and is committed to helping our community enjoy whole body health and well-being through the use of education and treatment.

Is acupuncture safe?

When practiced by a trained, licensed acupuncturist, acupuncture is very safe. We use only single-use, solid, sterile, disposable needles.

Does acupuncture hurt?

Each person experiences acupuncture differently.  In most cases, acupuncture is painless. Acupuncture needles are very fine and flexible, approximately the diameter of a thick strand of hair.  Many people report a sense of relaxation and well-being during and after treatments.

What happens during an acupuncture session?

In the first session you will discuss your health concerns with the acupuncturist.  She will check your tongue, feel your pulse and palpate your abdomen to gain further insight into your health. This information will help her develop an individualized treatment plan. Treatments last approximately one hour.

What can acupuncture treat?

The World Health Organization recognizes acupuncture’s ability to treat over 60 clinical disorders.  Some of these disorders include: stress, anxiety, insomnia, orthopedic injuries, infertility, GYN concerns and pregnancy related ailments, headaches, allergies, depression, fibromyalgia, irritable bowel, auto immune disorders, and diabetes.  Acupuncture has proven invaluable for people living with chronic illnesses as well as acute conditions.  Treatments help boost the immune system and prevent infections.
